2020-2021 Season Press Release

New Britain, CT, September 16, 2020: This is a year like no other, and The Music Series at South Church is taking the opportunity to embrace new ways to reach its audience as well as those who, for reasons of distance or otherwise, would normally be unable to attend a concert inside South Church. The Music Series remains committed to bringing original programming to music lovers this season.

On November 8th at 4 PM, a recital by organist Dexter Kennedy will be premiered on the South Church YouTube page. Dexter has established himself internationally as “one of the greatest organists of our times”. He will be traveling to Connecticut to record a concert on the South Church Gress-Miles organ so that audiences can experience the beauty of the instrument in a time when they can’t gather together.

December 20th brings the annual Festival of Lessons and Carols. The traditional gathering will look different this year as it too is being planned as a virtual experience. Leading up to the YouTube premiere, The Music Series encourages you to pay attention to its Facebook page (The Music Series at South Church) for information on how you can prepare to participate in the service from home. While Lessons and Carols gets a 2020 update, the focus on music of the season and Bible readings relating the story of Christmas will surely evoke the emotion and contemplation of the season. To ensure you can watch both Dexter Kennedy and Lessons and Carols, subscribe to South Church-New Britain’s YouTube channel to be alerted to new content as it appears.

In April and May, The Music Series plans to present Seraph Brass and Highline Vocal Jazz, both of whom were slated to perform last season, but were postponed due to the pandemic. For the most up-to-date season information, visit www.musicseries.org.
