Bill Charlap Trio

 

  A ticketed event.  Tickets:  $25 Premium, $15 General, $10 Senior/Student.

A special Father’s Day performance by the Bill Charlap Trio rounds out the Music Series season.  Jazz pianist Bill Charlap, regarded as one of the premiere interpreters of the Great American Songbook, will be joined by bassist Peter Washington and drummer Kenny Washington, a brilliant rhythm team.  Take Dad out for a wonderful afternoon of jazz!

An Alice Parker "SING!"

 

 Legendary choral composer, conductor and lecturer Alice Parker has delighted

audiences worldwide with her unique approach to group singing, using traditional

hymns and folk songs from many cultures. An Alice Parker “SING” involves the

entire audience in creating a musical event which is spontaneous, unpredictable

and fun!  Think of it as a participatory concert!  

Sure to be a magical, heartfelt, once-in-a-lifetime experience.

The South Church Chamber Society

featuring The Chiara String Quartet

and pianist David Westfall  

 

The South Church Chamber Society enters its sixth season with a concert 

featuring the acclaimed Chiara String Quartet and pianist David Westfall.

The Chiara String Quartet is well known for their impressive artistry,

“marvelously dramatic” approach, and innovative methods for expanding

chamber music audiences.  Repertoire will include Zhou Long’s 

Song of the Ch'in, Beethoven’s String Quartet Opus 59, no. 3, and

 Schumann’s Piano Quintet in E Flat Major with pianist David Westfall.

Reception follows.

Organist Cherry Rhodes

Noted for her stunning virtuosity and rich musical insight, Cherry Rhodes will

bring her artistry to South Church and work her own special magic with our 

powerful Gress-Miles organ. Of Ms. Rhodes, it’s been said “if she alights in your

community and you get a chance to hear her in person, don't miss it.” 

Great advice! Co-sponsored by the Greater Hartford Chapter, 

American Guild of Organists (AGO). Free-will donation.

 

An organ master class with Cherry Rhodes will be held at 

South Church on Saturday, April 5, from 10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Interested organists should contact the Greater Hartford AGO.

Master class is free to all AGO members.

The Three Choirs Festival: 

A Tribute to Ralph Vaughan Williams

The choirs from South Church, New Britain, and Hartford’s Immanuel and

Center  Churches join with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra in an extravagant

tribute to Ralph Vaughan Williams (in observance of the 50th anniversary of his death). 

Arguably one of Britain ’s greatest composers, Vaughan Williams produced works

recognized for their power, nobility and expressiveness, including our features, 

O Clap Your Hands, Prelude on Rhosymedre, Benedicite, and Dona Nobis Pacem. 

Performance site: Immanuel Church, 10 Woodland Street, Hartford.  

A ticketed event.  Tickets:  $50 premium, $30 general, and $20 seniors/students.
